Introduction
The Transformation Issue

Early this year, Northcentral University officially joined the nonprofit National University System (NUS), marking yet another milestone in the University's transformative history. Our cover story highlights how the integration of NCU as the System's fourth university affiliate not only enables NUS to expand its master's and doctoral academic offerings, but also provides NCU with significant opportunities to enhance educational experiences for students now and in the future.

Of course, NCU has always been a leader in offering best-in-class online programs to address the latest industry trends. Dr. Judy Palmer, program director of nursing, discusses the School of Health Sciences’ recently-launched Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization in management and organizational leadership and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in executive leadership. And Dr. John Frame and Dr. Stephanie Menefee provide an overview of the new Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) degree programs in the School of Business, now available to students interested in nonprofit, government, community service or public service careers.

This issue also features profiles of three alumni who are transforming their communities, their lives and the industries in which they work. School of Social and Behavioral Sciences graduate, Dr. Kelly Bushéy, talks to Higher Degrees about how she’s accomplishing her mission to improve counseling provided for Native Americans. You’ll also meet The Honorable Dr. Larry Wallace Jr. – veteran, businessman, author and now city council member for Manor, Texas. And Dr. Samose Mays, from the School of Education, shares his personal journey from homelessness to earning a doctoral degree.

We love seeing our alumni thrive, and results of a recent Gallup poll conducted for NCU show that NCU alumni are flourishing in purpose, social, financial, community and physical well-being – five measures of a life well lived. You can read more about the results in this issue, along with updates on alumni, faculty and staff from each of NCU’s Schools.

We hope you enjoy the issue! Please send your feedback and news for the next issue of Higher Degrees to HigherDegrees@ncu.edu.
